Prayers

Adult & All Age

Call to worship

Jesus was lifted up on the cross so that all could come to him.
Let us choose to seek God in this place today,
keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus
and choosing to follow him.

A gathering prayer

God of creation and order,
be with us as we gather for worship.
Help us to think carefully
about the choices we make and the people we look up to.
Lead us in the confusions and temptations of this world.
Teach us to look up to the light of your Son, Jesus Christ,
for guidance and inspiration.
Amen.

A prayer of approach

Lord God, we approach your light.
The light that shines in the darkness of our world.
The light that searches the darkness of our hearts.
The light that banishes the shadows that surround us.
The light that causes some to turn away because they prefer the darkness.
But we lift our faces to your light and walk towards you.
Lord God, we approach your light.
Amen.

A prayer of adoration

Heavenly Father, we worship you as the life force of the universe,
flowing through all things, sustaining and reviving.
We worship you in the light that falls on us unseen,
blessing us and guiding us towards you.
We worship you for the love that nurtures us.
Life, light and love, we adore you.
Amen.

A prayer of confession and an Assurance of forgiveness

Lord, your light has flooded the world;
but we have turned away, preferring darkness.
Lord, you have lifted up your Son that we might be forgiven;
but we have turned away, preferring to remain in our sins.
Lord, you have offered us eternal life;
but we have turned away, preferring the pleasures of earthly life.

Forgive us, O Lord, as we bow our heads before you.
We do not turn away any longer.
We lift our faces to seek your light.
We lift our eyes to see your Son.
We lift our hearts to live in you, and for you, for ever.
Amen.

Assurance of forgiveness

God raised the serpent in the desert so that the children of Israel might be healed; those who chose to look upon it lived.
God lifted up his Son upon a cross, so that all might be saved and have eternal life; those who choose to believe in him are forgiven their sins, and will know the joys of heaven.

O God, every day you offer us choices; ours is the decision between good and evil, the path of righteousness or the road to destruction.
Thank you for showing us the good and true way through your Son.
Thank you for forgiving us and guiding our feet back even when we turn the wrong way.
Thank you for your eternal love.
Amen.

A prayer of praise and thanksgiving

God in heaven, when we have strayed from your ways –
we thank you for giving us the chance to change direction.
When our choices have been driven by our selfishness rather than love for you –
we thank you for your forgiveness.
When we have heeded the ceaseless chatter of the world rather than obeying your Word –
we thank you for your patience with us.
Amen.

Prayers of intercession

On the leaders of the nations
as they make decisions about international relationships
especially on the leaders of China, Iran, Yemen and Myanmar:

Let your light shine,
and bring hope to your children.

On the leaders of the Church
as they make decisions about church opening
and mission activities for Passiontide and Easter:

Let your light shine,
and bring hope to your children.

On teachers, teaching assistants,
administrative staff and students
as they settle back into schools:

Let your light shine,
and bring hope to your children.

On those making decisions concerning the vaccination programme
and the implementation of the roadmap to recovery:

Let your light shine,.
and bring hope to your children.

On those who feel isolated,
those who mourn loved ones,
and those who are ill…

Let your light shine,
and bring hope to your children.

Loving Lord, we look up to you
and trust that your light will guide us
in the path of peace, justice and love.
In the name of Jesus.
Amen.

A prayer for all ages together

Lord of light,
we thank you that you are always near to us.
Help us to look up to you.
When we grumble and moan,
help us to look up to you.
May we be thankful for all the good things in our lives.
Help us to look up to you.
Amen.

A sending out prayer

Lord of light, help us to look to you in the coming week.
Guide us when the way ahead seems dark and full of obstacles.
May we always give thanks, even in the darkest times,
and enable us to shine as lights in the world.
Amen.

Ioan 3.14-21 Grawys 4

Galwad i addoli

Codwyd Iesu ar y groes fel y gallai pawb ddod ato ef.
Gadewch i ni ddewis chwilio am Dduw yn y lle hwn heddiw,
gan gadw ein llygaid yn sefydlog ar Iesu
a dewis ei ddilyn ef.

Gweddi ymgynnull

Dduw creadigaeth a threfn,
bydd gyda ni wrth i ni ymgynnull i addoli.
Helpa ni i feddwl yn ofalus
am y dewisiadau a wnawn a’r bobl yr edrychwn i fyny atynt.
Arwain ni yn nryswch a themtasiynau’r byd hwn.
Dysga ni i edrych i fyny ar oleuni dy Fab, Iesu Grist,
i gael arweiniad ac ysbrydoliaeth.
Amen.

Gweddi ddynesu

Arglwydd Dduw, nesawn at dy oleuni.
Y goleuni sy’n disgleirio yn nhywyllwch ein byd.
Y goleuni sy’n chwilio tywyllwch ein calonnau.
Y goleuni sy’n cael gwared â’r cysgodion sydd o’n cwmpas.
Y goleuni sy’n gwneud i rai droi i ffwrdd oherwydd bod yn well ganddynt y tywyllwch.
Ond codwn ein hwynebau tuag at dy oleuni a cherdded tuag atat.
Arglwydd Dduw, nesawn at dy oleuni.
Amen.

Gweddi o addoliad

Nefol Dad, molwn di fel grym bywyd y bydysawd,
yn llifo trwy bopeth, yn cynnal ac yn adfywio.
Molwn di yn y goleuni sy’n syrthio’n anweledig arnom,
yn ein bendithio ac yn ein harwain atat ti.
Molwn di oherwydd y cariad sy’n rhoi maeth i ni.
Fywyd, goleuni a chariad, addolwn di.
Amen.

Gweddi o gyffes

Arglwydd, mae dy oleuni wedi gorlifo dros y byd;
ond rydym ni wedi troi i ffwrdd am fod yn well gennym y tywyllwch.
Arglwydd, rwyt ti wedi codi dy Fab i fyny fel ein bod ni yn cael maddeuant;
ond rydym ni wedi troi i ffwrdd am fod yn well gennym aros yn ein pechodau.
Arglwydd, rwyt ti wedi cynnig bywyd tragwyddol i ni;
ond rydym ni wedi troi i ffwrdd am fod yn well gennym bleserau bywyd daearol.
Maddau i ni, O Arglwydd, wrth i ni blygu ein pennau o’th flaen.
Dydym ni ddim yn troi i ffwrdd bellach.
Rydym yn codi ein hwynebau i chwilio am dy oleuni.
Rydym yn codi ein llygaid i weld dy Fab.
Rydym yn codi ein calonnau i fyw ynot ti, ac er dy fwyn di, am byth.
Amen.

Sicrwydd o faddeuant

Cododd Duw y sarff yn yr anialwch er mwyn i blant Israel gael eu hiacháu; cafodd y rhai a ddewisodd edrych ar y sarff fyw.
Cododd Duw ei Fab ar groes er mwyn i bawb gael eu hachub a chael bywyd tragwyddol; maddeuir pechodau’r rhai sy’n dewis credu ynddo, a chânt wybod am lawenydd y nefoedd.

O Dduw, rwyt yn cynnig dewisiadau i ni bob dydd; ein dewis ni yw penderfynu rhwng y da a’r drwg, llwybr cyfiawnder neu’r ffordd i ddistryw.
Diolch i ti am ddangos i ni ffordd daioni a gwirionedd trwy dy Fab.
Diolch i ti am faddau i ni ac am dywys ein traed yn ôl hyd yn oed pan fyddwn yn cymryd y troad anghywir.
Diolch i ti am dy gariad tragwyddol.
Amen.

Gweddi o fawl a diolchgarwch

Dduw yn y nefoedd, pan fyddwn wedi crwydro oddi ar dy ffyrdd di –
diolchwn i ti am roi cyfle i ni newid cyfeiriad.
Pan fydd ein dewisiadau wedi eu llywio gan ein hunanoldeb yn hytrach na’n cariad tuag atat ti –
diolchwn i ti am dy faddeuant.
Pan fyddwn wedi gwrando ar glebran diddiwedd y byd yn hytrach nag ufuddhau i’th Air di –
diolchwn i ti am fod yn amyneddgar gyda ni.
Amen.

Gweddi ar gyfer pob oed gyda’i gilydd

Arglwydd goleuni,
diolchwn i ti am fod yn agos atom bob amser.
Helpa ni i edrych i fyny atat ti.
Pan fyddwn yn grwgnach a chwyno,
helpa ni i edrych i fyny atat ti.
Byddwn yn ddiolchgar am yr holl bethau da sydd yn ein bywydau.
Helpa ni i edrych i fyny atat ti.
Amen.

Litani diolchgarwch

Am ein byd a’i holl harddwch:
rhown ddiolch heddiw i Dduw.
Am ein creu ni fel ei gampwaith celf:
rhown ddiolch heddiw i Dduw.
Am y lle hwn a’r bywyd yr ydym yn ei rannu yma:
rhown ddiolch heddiw i Dduw.
Am ein cartrefi a’n teuluoedd, ein ffrindiau ac amseroedd da:
rhown ddiolch heddiw i Dduw.
Am fwyd a chynhesrwydd, am gysur a diogelwch:
rhown ddiolch heddiw i Dduw.
Arglwydd, helpa ni bob amser i gofio am dy gariad ac am dy roddion.
Amen.

Gweddi i gloi

Arglwydd goleuni,
helpa ni i edrych tuag atat ti yn yr wythnos sy’n dod.
Arwain ni pan fydd y ffordd ymlaen yn edrych yn dywyll ac yn llawn rhwystrau.
Rhown ddiolch bob amser, hyd yn oed yn yr amseroedd tywyllaf,
a galluoga ni i ddisgleirio fel goleuadau yn y byd.
Amen.

Children & Youth

A gathering prayer for children

Move round the group and lay a hand on the shoulder of each person, as you pray: God loves (insert name).
Finish by saying:

Loving God,
help us together to discover more about your love today.
Amen.

A prayer of praise and thanksgiving for children

Generous God,
you love the world, and us,
so much that you gave us your only Son, Jesus,
to be light for us all.
We praise you for your love and for the gift of life.
Amen.

A prayer for forgiveness (for children)

Light a candle as you pray:

Jesus, you came as light for the world.
We are sorry for the unkind, selfish
and thoughtless things we have done.
May your light help us to become more like you.
Amen.

A prayer for others (for children)

Provide a map of the world or a globe.
Invite everyone to place a finger on the place they wish to pray for.

Wonderful God, you love the world you have made.
We ask you to bless all the places
that mean something to us.
Amen.

A sending out prayer for children

Invite everyone to face the door.

Jesus,
help us to trust you
as we take your love out into the world.
Amen.

Pray with light

Hold a large piece of shiny material between two leaders.
Ask the children to lie underneath the canopy as the leaders gently wave it above them.
Shine a light through the material and, as you do, pray:

Jesus,
you are the light of the world.
May we always trust in you.
Amen.

Edrych i fyny

Marc 1.4-11 Grawys 4

Ymgasglu
Gweddi o fawl

Dduw hael,
rwyt yn caru’r byd, a ni,
cymaint fel y bu i ti roi i ni dy unig Fab, Iesu,
i fod yn oleuni i ni i gyd.
Molwn di am dy gariad ac am y rhodd o fywyd.
Amen.

Gweddïwch
Gweddïo gyda goleuni

Daliwch ddarn mawr o ddefnydd sgleiniog rhwng dau arweinydd. Gofynnwch i’r plant orwedd dan y canopi tra bo’r arweinyddion yn ei chwifio uwch eu pennau. Dangoswch oleuni trwy’r defnydd ac, wrth i chi wneud, gweddïwch: Iesu, ti yw goleuni’r byd. Boed i ni ymddiried ynot ti bob amser.
Amen.

Gweddi ymgynnull

Symudwch o gwmpas y grŵp a rhowch law ar ysgwydd pob un, wrth i chi weddïo:

Mae Duw yn caru (ychwanegu enw).
Gorffennwch trwy ddweud:
Dduw cariadlon,
helpa ni gyda’n gilydd i ddarganfod mwy am dy gariad heddiw.
Amen.

Gweddi am faddeuant

Cyneuwch gannwyll wrth i chi weddïo:

Iesu, daethost fel goleuni ar gyfer y byd.
Mae’n ddrwg gennym am y pethau cas, hunanol a difeddwl yr ydym wedi eu gwneud.
Boed i’th oleuni di ein helpu i fod yn debycach i ti.
Amen.

Gweddi dros eraill

Daparwch fap o’r byd neu glôb. Gwahoddwch bawb i roi bys ar y lle maent eisiau gweddïo drosto.

Dduw rhyfeddol,
rwyt yn caru’r byd a grëwyd gen ti.
Rydym yn gofyn i ti fendithio’r holl lefydd
sy’n bwysig i ni.
Amen.

Ewch gyda Duw
Gweddi i gloi

Gwahoddwch bawb i wynebu’r drws.

Iesu, helpa ni i ymddiried ynot ti wrth i ni fynd â’th gariad allan i’r byd.
Amen.
